Iron Creek Trail © Stephen Randall (oil, 20x16) $400

(Click on the picture for artist bio.) This is a studio painting from plein air sketches and photos at the 2010 Spearfish Canyon paint out in the Black Hills. Fall colors were starting and this trail was looking good. _______________________________ June 15, 2011 Check out Page Three for pictures from this year's paint out at the Japanese Gardens in Sioux Falls. ______________________________ Other 2011 plein air events being planned include Lake Okoboji, De Smet, Yankton, Madison Ranch and Silver City in the Black Hills. We'll keep you posted. _____________________________ 2010 PLEIN AIR PAINTING EVENTS... The Harvey Dunn Celebration Paint Out in De Smet on August 13-15, 2010 had a good turnout and I'm looking forward to a 2011 event. A few of my paintings are posted on Page One. I also attended the Annual Black Hills Plein Air Event on September 16-19 in Spearfish Canyon. Blue Dog Gallery in Lead was a wonderful host again as always. A few of my paintings are posted on Page Two and Page Three. I did manage to get out to paint at Pallisades Park and on Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls a few times during the summer. I've posted a few of misc. items and paintings on Page Four. Check out the soldier artist sketches from WWI. Also check out the Art of the American Soldier show at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia web site (see link on this page)- four of my Vietnam paintings are in it.

THE BIG SIOUX RIVER FALLS © Stephen Randall (oil, 18x14) $300

The river falls at Falls Park can be painted a lot of different ways. This is at flood stage in morning light as seen from below on the east side and looking back up river. _______________________________ AND SO STARTS A NEW YEAR... 2011 Prarie Artists Against the Wind showed their work at the Sioux Falls Museum of Visual Materials in March and April- 13 artists in all. I had these two paintings in the show- "The Big Sioux River Falls", oil, 18x14, a studio painting from a plein air sketch, and "Strawbale Winery", oil, 14x18, a plein air painting. And now they are at Eastbank Art Gallery in Sioux Falls along with some other of my plein air paintings during May and June this year. Artist reception June 3. Hope to see you there! Next up? This plein air painting was done at the 3rd Annual Harvey Dunn Plein Air Event 2011 in De Smet. A great paint out with friends and a successful show. The weather was great all weekend.
