Hisega Lodge

In 1908, six women, Helen Scroggs, Ida McNeil, Sade Robinson, Ethel Brink, Grace Wason and Ada Pike, camped by Rapid Creek west of Rapid City. A year later Pierre Lodge was built, later renamed Hisega Lodge. The name derived by the first letter of each of the women's names. The Lodge went through several changes of ownership and renovations and is currently owned by Carol and Kenn Duncan who continue the great traditions of the Lodge. The Rapid City Black Hills and Western Railroad, referred to as the Crouch Line, went along Rapid Creek from Rapid City to Mystic. Trains stopped at the Hisega Lodge as well as other locations to let the pasengers off to enjoy the sights, and then pick them up on the return trip. The line was called the "crookedest line in the world" and it offered it share of thrills. The railway was replaced by a road in 1948. |
