The Rapid City Black Hills and Western Railroad, referred to as the Crouch Line, on it's 34 mile trip from Rapid City to Mystic, crossed Rapid Creek 105 times during a 26 mile stretch. It was a thrilling trip winding through the beautiful scenery. Special picnic trains with their excursion cars ran on Sundays. Passengers were dropped off anywhere along the route and picked up on return.
The route also played an important industrial role. The Burlington Railway from Edgemont would transfer coal to the Crouch Line at mystic for shipment to Rapid City. The Crouch Line played an important part in the historic legacy of Black Hills railroading.
